ShareManager Version History
Australian ShareManager was developed to provide Stockmarket investors with the means to record their share purchases, sales, capital gains and dividends in an orderly way and generated reports for performance review or end-year tax purposes, all of which comply with Australian Taxation laws.
The product has been distributed for some 10 years mainly through Macintosh user groups, and through MacWorld advertising. It was developed using 'FileMaker Pro’ software jointly by Dr. Harry Wright and Stanton Ryan drawing on their experience in database design and stockmarket investing, and with reference to advices from taxation specialists.
In a general sense Investors have several options in deciding how to deal with the complexities of stockmarket investing. Some may opt for presenting the various transaction documents to their tax accountant for year-end tax assessment, which has associated costs. Some elect to use computer programs such as spreadsheets to record the transactions, which can be very complicated to do and generally would not provided for the report and review flexibility of ShareManager.
Using ShareManager offers a simple to use alternative giving instant status reviews and reports on all the key areas or their stockmarket investing.

- Altered the ‘New Entry’ scripts for ‘New Investor’ to clear the Code and Name fields, placing cursor ready to type. Changed ‘Investor’ field format to ‘Standard’, i.e. removed ‘Pop-up’. Solved problem for new users trying to enter a new investor code from the pop-up menu, which was not possible.
- Created new message ‘Help’ button in the Bonus file allowing full text to be read – Help and ? buttons.
- ‘Selector’ script in Stocks, Dividends and Trusts, adjusted to clear the company and investor from the Selector screen. Solved problem where previous g field was cleared giving a ‘no find’ result.

- Arranged top Navigation buttons to work going to related record in the Company file for Stocks, Dividends and Trusts. The Company Navigation button in the Broker and Investor files go to List view sorted by Company name.
- The entry into the Account name field in ‘Accounts’ has been blocked, and a ‘?’ button has been provided which takes one to the investors screen and into the next empty Account Reference field. When there are already 3 accounts an alert message is shown.
- Fixed bug in ‘What-if’ calculation for Capital Gains/Loss Tax liability estimate, where a LOSS was involved, so that the default discount (50%) is not applied for stocks held for over a year.
- Placed navigation button giving a return direct to Selector option from the ‘What-if’ screen.
- Capital Gains explanation ‘Help’ flag placed on Reports screen.
- New layout for ‘Print Help’ notes from Stocks-Utilities.

- The ‘Demo’ version entry limit for purchase and sale transactions has been increased from 25 to 50 in the STOCKS file.
- A minor bug fixed in using the 'Selector' feature which could show the wrong grouping of Stocks in certain circumstances.
Version 4.1 New Features (4 Aug 2007)
Overall
A new preference setting is provided to control the display size most appropriate to your monitor. The default setting is 100%, which will suit the 640 x 480 pixel size of the smaller monitors, but allows preference enlargements to 150 or 200%. These settings may be selected in the Stocks file–Utilities screen, and this single setting controls the screen size for all the files. A re-start is required for any changes to take effect.
The procedure for Importing data from previous versions now provides automatic or manual options, the ‘Auto’ option avoiding the ‘mapping field’ dialog box and the need to match fields.
The page setup defaults have been standardised to give the appropriate setting for reports, also allows for a 'Custom' setting for page setup to cater for variability in Macintosh compatibility with printers.
Stocks file
The Preview & Print option in the ‘List’ view now gives an option to show with or without sub-summaries by company.
The Summary Values report now allows you to view grand totals only by investor, or with details of each company.
The Stocks Reports options now includes a 'Stocks Purchased' report for a given purchase date range.
The Holder or Security Reference Number (HIN or SRN) as registered with your broker, and entered for the first stock purchase through a sponsored broker, is now auto entered for subsequent stock purchases using the same broker. The figures can also be manually entered if required.
Capital Gains Summaries separates gains eligible and not eligible for discount, and also losses from non-discounted gains. This gives a clear set of summaries for taxation purposes. The calculated figure for overall capital gain/loss tax liability has been removed as it can be in error in certain situations where losses exceed non-discounted gains, while the three summaries alone are the key figures for tax assessment purposes.
An entry field for Stamp Duty on purchases and sales is no longer available, as such duties are no longer applicable. Where earlier entries are imported from previous versions with stamp duty entries these values are now combined with the brokerage figure on the entry screen and in reports.
